The MachineLog system is a cost effective approach to monitoring performance of factory floor machinery. The system is easy to install, easy to setup, and provides useful information about machine efficiency in an almost effortless manner.

The MachineLog system contains the following main components:
     Data Collection Station
     System Setup Software
     Data Collection Server Software
     MachineLog Database
     Data Analysis Software

MachineLog System Overview


Data Collection Station
The MachineLog Data collection Station is connected to the machine to be monitored. The Station has on operator interface display, a barcode reader, and I/O for machine connections.

System Setup Software
The system setup software is used to configure the MachineLog network. The configuration consists of defining machines on the network, areas of responsibility, and downtime causes for each machine. The Setup Software is used to download the setup into each MachineLog Data Collection Station on the network.

Data Collection Server Software
The data collection software runs on a standards PC dedicated to collecting information from the Data Collection Stations and storing that information into the MachineLog Database.

MachineLog Database
The MachineLog Database allows the efficient storage of data collected from the MachineLog System. The Database design can be implemented in Microsoft Access as well as SQL server or many other databases following ODBC.

Data Analysis Software
The MachineLog Data Analysis system provides several standard reports. These reports provide information in such a way as to easily see production efficiencies. Using this information, companies can pinpoint areas to make improvements, reducing downtime and improving productivity.

The MachineLog System
MachineLog is an uptime/downtime monitoring system for equipment. It simply keeps track of uptime/downtime by cause information. MachineLog's setup frontend is built on Microsoft Access. When setting up MachineLog, the user defines each machine and downtime causes associated with each machine. Downtime causes are assigned to areas of responsibility. These are developed by the user. They are typically defined as maintenance, production, scheduling, etc. Once the MachineLog network has been defined, then the setup information is downloaded into all the Data Collection Stations on the network. Downtime Barcode sheets are also printed out for each machine on the network. The barcode sheets contain the downtime causes for the machine as well as a barcode beside the downtime cause.

The Data Collection Station is connected to the equipment to be monitored. One input tells the Station when the machine is running and when it is down. Other inputs are available to tell the unit automatically why the machine is down. When the Data Collection Station sees that the machine is down, it first scans the automatic inputs for a downtime cause. If one is not available there, the unit prompts the operator for the downtime cause. The operator scans the appropriate downtime cause from the downtime barcode sheets for that machine, using the barcode scanner. When the machine starts back running, the MachineLog Data Collection Station sends information back to the MachineLog Data Collection Server Software. The information consists of what time the machine went down, why it went down, and when it started back up. The Data Collection Server Software takes the information and stores it into the database. There is an output available on the Data Collection Station that can be optionally used to lock the machine from being able to be started back up unless a downtime cause has been defined.

The Data Analysis software is used to analyze the data. When information is collected on a machine, reports for uptime/downtime can be generated that paredo downtime by area of responsibility. Reports can be printed by shift, day, week, month, etc. Using MachineLog, a manager can identify specific downtime reasons and put a value on how much recovering that downtime could be worth to the company. Using the reports organized by area of responsibility, the manager can easily have each area work to improve upon its top downtime causes.

MachineLog Charts and Graphs
MachineLog software allows efficiency data to be available in a variety of formats. The system can be manipulated to present information in a format that meets the customer's specifications.
